Let's Encrypt secures the most domains of any CA: 125,896,799 active domains, 53.01% of all domains we can attribute to an issuer as of October 15, 2026, ahead of GoDaddy at 26.69%.

How is certificate authority market share measured here?

Every domain carries the issuer of the most recent certificate we observed for it in the Certificate Transparency logs. We count the active domains attributed to each CA once a day. That is current market share of live domains - not the number of certificates a CA has ever issued, and not counting the many certificates a single domain accumulates over its life.

Why are several intermediate CAs grouped under one name?

Authorities sign from a rotating set of intermediates - Let’s Encrypt uses R10, R11 and others; DigiCert has dozens. The CT logs name the intermediate, so we store per-intermediate counts and roll them up to the parent authority here. Each CA page lists its intermediates and their individual counts.

Why is the active count lower than the total number of domains you hold?

We retain records for domains that have since lapsed. The active count is the current, live population; the raw record count includes domains we have seen at some point but that are no longer in a zone file or covered by a recent certificate.
